“Women Leaders and the Key Role of Civil Society Organizations” seminar in Ukraine

On 15th and 16th May 2018, Multinational CIMIC Group participated in the “Women Leaders and the Key Role of Civil Society Organizations” seminar in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The seminar was organized by the NATO Advanced Research Workshop along with the collaboration of the Women’s Information Consultative Centre of Kiev and Istituto Affari Internazionali, and was supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Program. Aim of the seminar was to gather around the table representatives from the central and local institutions of Ukraine, women leaders and representative of women groups, as well as representative from human rights organizations and from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The event enabled Civil Society organizations and armed forces representatives to share different experiences and best practices in order to identify common strategy and procedures to overcome the current challenges.

Furthermore the event helped to strengthen the civil-military network and will enable the creation of a civil-military platform where to facilitate the exchange of information.

Among all the attendees it has to be highlighted the participation of Mrs. Claire HUTCHINSON, the NATO Secretary General’s Special representative for Women, Peace and Security, along other key leaders from civil and military organizations. The seminar was opened by the speech via VTC of Mrs. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, (Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on EU and Euro Atlantic Integration & coordinator for gender equality policies) followed by Mr. Jamie Shea, (Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges to the NATO HQ).

Multinational CIMIC Group participated in the seminar by providing one lecturer, who presented the fundamental principles of the CIMIC Policy and Doctrine, and pointed-out the major challenges encountered by Military and Non-Military Actors in the management of a crisis. The lecture was followed-up by a syndicate groups discussion to further deepen the subject.
